I'm not giving this much hope. I'm not giving the Atari Box much hope either, and I'm hoping to pick up the Atari Box just for my retro touch (as I've grown up with Atari). This does look like it would be fun, but in all honesty, it looks like one big party game that they were showing off, that could easily be a good game for the Switch. I agree with him though, that it's more fun to play a party game next to someone...that's what I always remember from my youth...but in this day and age, it's going to be hard to sell a new console at a fairly-high price, and then try to sell other games for it too. Would be worth it when the price goes down, but unfortunately, when the price goes down, it becomes hard to find games and others for it then...(hint on when I bought my Dreamcast finally...a few months later, found out it was going out and quickly raced to try to find games and accessories for it, which became frustrating). To each their own though, and I hope that the ones who purchase this, enjoy it! I'm hoping, when I purchase it, I enjoy the Atari Box...but, time will tell the most!!!! Hope for the best Intellivision!!!
Looking at the first picture of the celebration of the game, you can tell there was some hefty celebration going on! A little drunk there! Other than that, since Star Fox 64, I haven't enjoyed any since. I thought Star Fox Adventures was great graphics and a good story, but it wasn't as grand as playing the original on the Super NES. I hope they give it another chance...the switch has a bigger audience and could use a great one...just re-release the originals and try them again. F-Zero, Wave Race, 1080, Punch Out, Ice Climber and Kid Icarius could all use another go if they were given the chance...I'd even love to see Startropics make a comeback!
Ah, the fun times I had of being a kid and hearing about all of Mortal Kombat glory in school! I had the genesis, and never looked at the Super NES (loved the NES, but went with Sega for the Sonic titles and Toe Jam And Earl). Anyone in school that had the Super NES was made fun of...all the talk about nintendo turning to become a kiddie system was arriving then because of the lack of blood and gore in Mortal Kombat, and it never stopped, even with the release of Mortal Kombat 2 on the Super. However, my cousin owned a Super (I had the Genesis, since we met quite often, we figured that was the best way to handle the console war)...and I'll admit that the sound and graphics were better on the Super, but with the lack of the blood and gore, even I wouldn't get into it. Sweating to death was just plain funny though!!! Anyways, on one of my VHS tapes of Jurassic Park, the commercial is still in there! The hype was great for Mortal Kombat, and I even remembering paying $70 for Mortal KOmbat 2 when it came out! Even when the movie came out, there was so much buzz, and the theater was packed for it! Then came trading cards, POGS (yup, that old!), t-shirts and more! It's just funny how a franchise was a big hit when it first arrived, and still continues to be a hit (most things rub off quickly if they are big hits right away it seems). Now, if they would have added Freddy into Mortal Kombat X, to go along with Jason, I'd be in heaven!!!! Freddy Versus Jason would have been nice, instead of keeping Freddy in the PS3 360 title, and Jason only in X. Maybe we'll get the originals in a nice collection for Switch, or possibly, X will come out for Switch with all the DLC included!
I honestly had the PSP and DS at the time...sad to say, that I loved the PSP more for some of the titles (Loco Roco 1-2, Patapon, Hot Shots Golf and more). I also liked the DS too, but for some reason, not as much as the original Gameboy. PSP was incredible and had many great games, but it was the memory sticks that cost too much...especially for a big one costing as much or more than a game...plus, just like mentioned in the article, DS had way more games in their library (granted many were bad or not that great at all). The PSP also didn't have many quick titles (ones that could be played quickly while on the go) and not many children titles either, and the system itself didn't seem like it was a kid-friendly system...kind of hard for a kid to play, which is definitely one of the audiences for the DS' success. Nintendo seemed and still seems to satisfy all audiences, where Sony tries to, but usually is looked at by the older generation like myself (trying not to sound biased there).
All honesty, both systems were great, even though I chose the PSP over the DS. The VITA could have been much better, but I chose the 3DS over that...guess I go back in forth. I love both companies, but I'll stick with Sony for home console! And, would I like to see sony make another handheld...sure! Would I purchase it...depends on the price and if they actually add a better memory format for it. And, even though I could be wrong, wasn't the memory cards for both the PSP and VITA what took many people's attention from it?
@SwitchVogel Pitfall, Pong, Pitfall 2, Journey, Krull, Adventure...basically the ones that came out on the Atari Flashback Collections for PS4 and XBONE and were also on the 360...still, if you grew up in that era, they were great games...as long as you don't count ET.
Since I can really only play my Atari on an older TV (Looks horrible on HD televisions), this is something that I'll be in for...depending on price and what games come out on it. I wonder if Nintendo will allow them to release the original Donkey Kong game for it?
There's quite a lot of gamecube titles that I'd love to see be re-released on future consoles, many were lost titles that deserve another shot (Billy Hatcher for one). Each company was pretty good on that company, even Star Fox Adventures (due not the best, but a decent title nonetheless) is due a re-release! The three Rogue Squadron games were some of the greatest Star Wars games made...and I'm not even a Star Wars fan (honestly, hated the first 3 movies and never even attempted to sit through any others...and first 3, I mean the original 3 from the 70's and 80's). Would love to see them come back and since it missed it on Wii, how about Switch or even bringing them to the other consoles...give them a second go!
I remember that this games was coming as a launch title for the Gamecube, and I was very excited for it. It was then 2 years later that it came out, and it just came out with no regards to the game over here in the US, which is probably why it wasn't a big hit. It was advertised in the beginning, but seemed like it got lost.
This was a great game, with a great story and great horror action. Definitely one that I'd replay...even buy again if it came out on nintendo's next console! Hopefully, nintendo isn't too stubborn and listens to fans of the game and rereleases the original and also adds a sequel that is long overdue. Maybe with the NX, they'll finally add Gamecube games to the virtual console, and we can enjoy this title again! Until then, I guess I'll be busting out my Gamecube if I feel the urge to play it!!!
If nintendo would have kept sony, they both would have had the powerful systems with powerful games. Both companies create big games, and together, they would have dominated the marked. As for sega still being around, it could have happened, but I think they'd still be in the same boat that they drug themselves into, and I still think Microsoft would have tried, but would have been another company that wouldn't have been able to succeed. The company that I think could have stuck around, would have been Atari. I still wonder to this day, what nintendo could be if Sony was still with them, but I also wonder on if Ubisoft is ever going to try and make their own console ever (with games like Rayman, Rabbids, Assassin's Creed and Just Dance).
