This is the retro console that I have been waiting for. The Analogue consoles are cool and all but they are expensive in their own right and it's more hardware to deal with.
@KitsuneNight Yeah that's the problem with the old approach to digital games that Nintendo had. If your console died you lost all your games since they were tied down the console, not an account. Luckily that isn't an issue with accounts.
@PixelMist I have bought plenty of games that later got delisted, but it has never effected my digital library. Games still work, I can still download them whenever, it's only a problem if you missed out.
@TheWingedAvenger Yeah this is one of those things where I see it having a niche market with aging retro gaming enthusiasts who are nostalgic for old games from the 80's and early 90's. Can't say that I could see anyone else wanting it though unless it gets really cheap with a bunch of game collections included. Most kids who are interested in classics will just play them on their Switch or mobile phone with an emulator. They don't exactly have the money to be going out and buying a handheld and lots of games like this when it doesn't have anything else to offer really. A Switch is more expensive but it's got far more to offer kids who are likely to be desiring Fortnite over old Atari games.
Yeah this never really appealed to me because it is basically just an emulation machine, new and original content isn't really a thing. When it comes to retro games I have no shortage of them in the form of ACA games, and then there's the NES and SNES apps and other classic game collections. This just doesn't really have much to offer me and I am definitely in no need of more handheld game consoles. I have multiple 3DS's, an old DS XL, GBA SP, old Vita and a Vita slim, as well as a PSP Go and a Switch and Switch Lite. At a certain point I need to admit how something like the Evercade is just completely unnecessary and unlikely to get much use.
@ROBLOGNICK I think the english version of Snatcher was only released for the Sega CD. It would have been nice if they could have translated it but that would have required them to modify the game and I think they just wanted to give us the original version.
The story of Atari is that of bad deals and decisions. They were in control of the market in the early 80's only to have completely lost it by the late 80's. All the best people from the company went on to do better things elsewhere.
Well the size factor is a lot better, that's for sure. The Capcom stick is just way too big, this is at least somewhat normal. That said I am fine with sticking to my Hori stick and ACA NeoGeo games.
@MarioBrickLayer Yeah I could see this being perfect for someone who just wants to get one of those custom arcade cabinets for arcade sticks like this. It would be a really cool way to get an in-home arcade machine.
Honestly the problem I got with this is the size. This is no longer a micro console, this is a giant twin arcade stick that will take up a lot of room. While it is pretty easy for me to just put a SNES Mini somewhere discreet this would standout like a sore thump. That and I am not too big on the design, since this is such a large device the fact that it is essentially just a massive Capcom logo make it looks a bit over the top. It's like you gotta be a massive Capcom fan to want something like this in your house. I like how they have finally included some arcade games that never got a home release, but I would rather just buy them in a collection for my Switch.
Honestly I much prefer the 3 button Genesis controller. The problem with the 6 button Genesis controller is how the other 3 buttons are useless for about 99% of the Genesis library, and the controller is notably smaller and less comfortable to hold. That and I always thought the 6 button controllers felt cheaper.
@SyFyTy People post about what they don't want because this is a promotion article for a product that has been heavily promoted around here for very questionable reasons. Obviously the more often people see something being promoted the more likely they are to comment on it even if those comments are negative.
@konbinilife Yeah I don't get why these people dedicate themselves to insisting upon some legal misconception. Everything they talk about is pertaining to what you do with it and if you ever owned it.
@Savino Well that doesn't really say anything about you not being allowed to obtain a backup of content that you own, it is merely giving legal guidelines for creating backups where if you are making a backup it is only legal if you own the content and are keeping the backup in your sole possession. Basically that just backs up what I already said, how there is legislation in place that prevents you from distributing it openly, but it doesn't do anything to negate the legality of any backups in your possession if you own the original content regardless of how you obtained those backups.
@Savino That is actually a false interpretation, you are allowed to possess backups of purchased media, those anti-copying laws are intended to effect people who are distributing.
@brunojenso Yeah it sounds like you know what you like about this, you are definitely the kind of person they are making it for. There's definitely worse ways to spend your money, hope you enjoy it!
@brunojenso No worries I am sure some people such as yourself find value in this and that is great for you, it's just that I have always had a hard time finding this concept appealing. In any case I don't think you are going to get far trying to trash the Switch Lite in favor of promoting this console, regardless of whatever features or design decisions you don't like about the Switch Lite it is a far more fully featured console than this is and it has a far wider variety of games to offer which is simply an objective fact.
There is also the fact that with the Switch Lite you are buying a first party Nintendo handheld electronic which is a company with proven quality and standards. The Evercade is completely unproven when it comes to that and nobody knows how well made these are or how reliable they will be, and the game support is very questionable at best. This is just a niche product for people who are into obscure retro inspired gaming stuff from odd 3'rd party sources.
Why are they still promoting this thing here? This sounds like a ridiculous handheld to be spending $150 on, especially right before the $200 Switch Lite releases. I have a lot of quality concerns with the Evercade and the whole concept seems outdated and unnecessary. I already got most of the games it is offering on my Switch and the Switch has so much more to offer.
Looks cool but I already have one of those SNK mini arcades. It's a neat concept but it's one of those things where I am fine just having the one, I got all the ACA Neo Geo games on my Switch so it's just a novelty item for me.
@Yorumi Yeah when it comes to old authentic hardware I think you are better off sticking with the real thing unless they come out with some CD player console emulation. Cartridge based consoles seem to rarely have issues.
I have a lot of problems with this, and it's mostly that I never had a Turbographics-16 console so therefore I have nothing for it as far as the classic hardware goes. I mean I have plenty of Virtual Console TG-16 games but none of the original physical games.
This means that not only would I have to pay $300 for the system and $60 for the module, but I would need to shell out for ebay prices and try to source original copies of whatever games I am interested in. As somebody who has collected a lot of older games for other consoles I am well aware of how expensive and time consuming that can be.
Basically, this entire concept only works for people who have been collectors and are looking for a new way to play their old collections. Since I have collected for consoles like the SNES I would probably be very interested in that, but then again my original SNES is in great shape, I don't really have any issues playing the games, and there are other more proven, far cheaper options out there.
@rxchrisg Yeah I definitely agree, the whole retro gaming market is getting ridiculously over-saturated these days with unnecessary dedicated devices. It's like unless you are the type who feels some inexplicable need to collect all kinds of obscure consoles that have no real importance I don't see how anyone could get excited about this kind of stuff.
@MagnaRoader Yeah I don't get why some people are so sensitive about criticism. I mean I get how it can become toxic when uncalled for but this is one of those situations where there are valid reasons for criticism. This site could do a better job when it comes to Switch coverage, and seeing as how this is a site dedicated to Nintendo that comes off as a valid observation. As for this handheld it is not only unrelated to anything Nintendo but it is just some concept that will most likely hardly appeal to anyone. I am sure there are more dedicated sites than this for discussing it anyways.
@MagnaRoader Yeah I mean it is one thing to talk about things that are off topic, but it seems like this site has really been trying to hype up this handheld for some reason. I don't get it as it seems to have a rather dismal selection of games and nobody has even seen any real life images of the thing.
@Folkloner Yeah well said I always got annoyed when someone launches into attacks on anyone who complains about anything. It comes off as someone trying to force complacency.
@Filbert_Wang If you think this thing will have widespread appeal you are only fooling yourself. At best this will probably sell like the Ouya, lots of initial interest and early sales from the early adopter type of enthusiasts, but they will probably only be able to appeal to just that one crowd.
I mean yeah, retro gaming is a big thing but the problem with that is how it is a very crowded marketplace these days and this is very far from being the only way to play these games. I mean I got the Atari collection on my Switch which has a lot to do with why I am not interested. I love classics but I won't be rushing out to buy this because it just doesn't do anything special.
@Heavyarms55 Yeah that is a handheld that I have been looking for as well. Essentially just a first generation GBA kind of design but with a nice adjustable backlit screen. Let me play roms as well as original cartridges and I would have nothing to complain about.
That is why I mentioned the Neo Geo X, this device basically just feels like the same kind of thing only less interesting.
@Heavyarms55 Yeah this reminds me of the Neo Geo X. Some good ideas with poor execution that ultimately only appeals to a few hardcore retro enthusiasts.
If I can use this to play Time Crisis with I'm sold. No way I would buy something like this for Duck Hunt, lol, I can play that with a wiimote on the Wii U.
@Ooyah That is what I was thinking, I honestly just assumed the crank would be used to power it because when you think about it having a hand crank powered game console could be really useful in some situations where power is in short supply.
They could come up with some fun little games to play while you are cranking it for power, seems like a real missed opportunity to not capture any energy.
Hmm I think they really missed the window for something like this. I have the Atari Classics collection on my Switch and I would much rather just play them that way.

This is why I haven't bought any of those analogue consoles, this seems like the best solution for the money.

Does it play Sega CD, 3DO, Saturn, and Dreamcast? Can it play Atari Jaguar cartridges? If so this is a total must buy.
