I never had a Spectrum back in the day (I only used C64 and Atari XE), so I bought a refurbished ZX Spectrum 2+ on Ebay, which started to fail after just two days. Returned it, and found another one, same thing happened. And after hearing how unreliable old Speccy's are, I just gave up. So this is exactly what I needed. My girlfriend's gonna give me one for christmas. 😁👍👍
Yes!! One of my favorite games on Saturn. I would love to see M2 make a new Elevator Action game, in the same style as Return. And I wouldn't say no to a new Chase HQ either. Plenty of Taito IP:s, they could make new games from.
@hste Yeah, I know what ypu mean, as I also prefer to see new games, working around the limits of original hardware, without "cheating" with modern expansion chips. Same even with most new homebrew games for Atari 2600, which uses new chips and memory, to make it do things, which was impossible with original cartridges. Now it's even possible to show FMV on the 2600. If you add a Ferrari engine, to an old Fiat, is it really a Fiat anymore? 😂
I'm just getting a "404 Page can't be found" message, when I click on something on that page. And it doesn't load any of the images on the front page. Same for everyone else?
Owned a 32x for a while, 12 years ago. But compared to the Mega CD, that got plenty of great games, like Snatcher, Robo Aleste, Lord of Thunder etc. , the tiny 32x library is just not worth the insane amount of money it goes for these days. Still, Afterburner and Space Harrier, was the best ports available, at the time. Very impressive.
Button layout might work for Street Fighter, but it sucks for everything else.
Also, no way to rotate the screen, for vertical games, also sucks. It's something even the tiny Egret II mini could do. The screen is so small, that it will be difficult to see the bullets, when you can only play it, in horizontal mode, with borders. My old eyes, just can't survive that 😂
It's so easy to find these SEGA systems in the wild. And with cheap solutions, like a Rad2X cable, you can hook it up to a modern TV, without any problems. Plus you get the real systems, compared to FPGA, which still isn't perfect. I got sound issues with my Mega SG, on games like Rastan and the new Darius arcade port, that will never be fixed by Analogue, as they have moved on to the newer systems. I got so frustrated, that I went back to original hardware instead. Same with my Super NT, which has graphical glitches on Pocky and Rocky.
FPGA is great, but it's still not 100 procent perfect all the time.
My 1-chip looks much better than my blurry 2-chip. But there are so many variant of the 2-chip, and I think you can mod 2-chips now, to get the sharper image.
@Bod2019 Yeah, Retro-Bit would have done a great job, with a Earthion release. Why do these companies STILL team up with Limited Run??? Been waiting a long time for the game, and this news, just killed any plans to buy it physically. I'll just buy the rom. But hopefully, someone else makes a physical cart of it, in the future. I would rather just buy a bootleg cart, than support LRG.
Imagine if this port was released, at the same time as the SNES version 😱 The SNES version was a bit of disappointment, but still, way better than the horrible computer ports.
I hope it improves the framerates, so it can stay locked at 30 or 60fps.
I've been emulating N64 games, and they run much better, than original hardware.
The framerates on N64 games, are even worse than I remembered, on the console.
The worst I have encountered, was below 10 fps.
So I quickly gave up on real hardware, and emulated again.
Problem is, when people are stuck with nostalgia glasses on. Yeah, the 80:s was fun, but there was just as many problems back then, as today. Everyone remembers the era, they grew up in, as the best decade ever. Sadly some get so brutally stuck in that childhood nostalgia, that they didn't evolve beyond that. And the "Retro" companies, knows how to feed upon those.
It's really hard to go back to most of these PS1 3D platformers, even when they make remasters/remakes. Spyro and Crash remakes, had much better graphics, but still suffered from janky gameplay.
2D side scrollers though, is pretty much timeless.
I haven't lost one single digital game.
Been buying digital on PC for 17 years now.
And I can still redownload games that you can't buy anymore, on PS3 and the 360.
And I got so many digital games for older system, backed up on harddrives.
I buy both digital and physical on console, mostly digital for indie games. Though I'm starting to get tired of all the physical clutter. It takes up so much space. But I still hope that physical stays, for the next couple of console generations.
And I hope that we'll get the option, to trade or sell our digital games, in the future.
The original game, wasn't really all that great.
The hit detection and controls was pretty janky, and the insane amount of slowdowns, especially in the later stages, are so bad, it becomes unplayable to me, especially when we played two players. It's almost like they didn't expect gamers to get further than stage 2, so they didn't bother to optimize the game.
It was groundbreaking, in the way it created the beat em up genre, we still enjoy today. But other than that, and the great graphics and soundtrack, it always was pretty mediocre, as a game. I had more fun with Renegade.
The new game looks fun, and I had a good time with Gaiden as well.
But my favorite, will always be Double Dragon 2, for the NES.
Wasn't a fan of the original, which I had for my Amiga CD32.
Nice graphics and music, but the gameplay was typical generic Euro shooter. I guess I was just spoiled by the Japanese shmups on the SNES/Mega Drive.
Silkworm had a great port though, and Battle Squadron also felt like an arcade game. Agony had an epic soundtrack and amazing graphics, but once again, pretty average gameplay (though this was pretty typical for Psygnosis).
So many companies, that turned into *****, when they became huge. EA released so much original content, back in the 80:s-90:s. Miss games like Archon, Desert Strike, Road Rash etc. Same with companies like Activision, which was created by the best ex-Atari developers, making the best games for the 2600. Ubisoft also made some fun stuff, before they got stuck making half broken open-world games...
It already feels like these companies are run by AI.
So tired of them milking this console. There are still bugs in the Mega SG (messed up music in Rastan, Darius Extra Version, etc) and Super NT (glitchy graphics in Pocky and Rocky) that will never be fixed. Heard the Duo also had some issues? But nope, all focus seems to be on releasing new Pocket colors, that the FOMO collectors throw themselves at...
Gotten disc rot, on a few discs, even when stored inside my apartment, at normal temp. A few of my old Atari and Colecovision cartridges have stopped working as well. I got two Game & Watch games, and a Gameboy, where the screens suffers from LCD leak, even though I never dropped them. These things are just starting to break down, due to age, no matter how we store them. What is strange though, is that I found a box with a couple of C64 tapes, in my parents attic, which have suffered through heatwaves and coldwinters. But even today, 35 years later, those tapes loaded without any issues.
I'm happy about emulation and FPGA, so future generations, can discover these games, when most of the physical stuff has rotten away.
THIS is how you make a remake. Hope M2 finds more mediocre games, to enhance. Bit most of all, I would love for them to make a brand new 2D old-school Castlevania. Personally I prefer the pre-metroidvania games.
Nintendo will take this down, and the fanboys on NintendoLife will defend them doing so.
"FAn gAme baAaDd. MAke yoor oWn GaMe".
Glad you can still find everything they take down, if you know where to search for them 😁

Pretty damn impressive for an old mobile port.

and you have much cheaper option, with original hardware.
