Re: Random: This US Bakery Still Uses A Commodore 64 For Sales In 2024

Steel76

One thing is for sure, they don't need to deal with Windows, and worry about hackers 😁

I used to work in a videostore, 20 years ago, and the computer we used, had been in service since the 80:s. The program we used was flawless, and ΓΌber easy to work with. Then the boss upgraded to a Windows PC, and suddenly, we were stuck with a ***** program, that often crashed, and was way more annoying to use.

No point in upgrading, if the stuff you got, no matter how old, still works flawlessly.

Re: Sega's Western CEO Isn't Interested In Saturn And Dreamcast Mini Consoles

Steel76

There are an endless supply of emulator consoles, that can play Saturn and Dreamcast now. Both Saturn (which I love) and Dreamcast flopped hard, and I doubt that mini consoles would sell well, outside of our niche retro community.
NES and SNES mini was huge sellers, but those are WAY more popular and mainstream. Except for people like us, noone knows about the Saturn and Dreamcast today.
Even Playstation mini was a flop.

Why spend money, to manufacture something, that will only sell to a small group of hardcore SEGA retro fans? They would only end up loosing money.
They should just release collections of the games, on modern systems and PC.

Re: If PS2 Launched In 2024, This Is What Its Reveal Trailer Would Look Like

Steel76

I wish it was the PS2 era, all over again, when the game industry wasn't a complete mess.
When games were released in a finished state. Sure still some bugs from time to time, but nothing major as today, when most big titles are beta/broken on release.
Getting multiple GTA games, in one generation, instead of one game 15 years apart.
Even AAA games still had fun artstyle, instead of boring realism. And most important of all, we didn't drown in remasters and remakes.

Still today, I find games on the PS2 (got one modded with a HDD), that I've never knew about, or had the chance to play back then, that I often end up having more fun with, compared to modern AAA and indie games.

Buy maybe I'll feel the same way about the PS5, during the PS8 era, when things have gotten WAY worse πŸ˜‚

Re: Here's A Better Look At The Promising "All-In-One" MiSTer FPGA Console, Multisystem 2

Steel76

I'm done with FPGA consoles.
I have owned Mega SG and Super NT, but there was graphical/sound issues on a couple of games, that will never get fixed, due to them not updating them anymore.
So I went back to original consoles. Much cheaper, and if you don't have a scaler, you can just get a Rad2X cable instead, to easily connect and get good PQ on a modern TV.

I bet the OG consoles, will outlive the FPGA hardware.

Re: 'Faster' Is A Seriously Smooth New Racing Game For The Atari STE

Steel76

I wish the ST port of Outrun, ran like this, instead of the slideshows we got, when an arcade game was ported.
Prime example, that the hardware wasn't the problem, but a mix of talentless programmers, and greedy companies, that only gave them like two weeks (probably more, but you get my point) to finish the games.

Re: Review: The Spectrum - Does Sir Clive Sinclair's Legacy Proud

Steel76

I never had a Spectrum back in the day (I only used C64 and Atari XE), so I bought a refurbished ZX Spectrum 2+ on Ebay, which started to fail after just two days. Returned it, and found another one, same thing happened. And after hearing how unreliable old Speccy's are, I just gave up.
So this is exactly what I needed.
My girlfriend's gonna give me one for christmas. πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ‘

Re: Interview: Meet The Man Who's Upgrading SNES Doom With The "Super FX 3" Chip

Steel76

@hste
Yeah, I know what ypu mean, as I also prefer to see new games, working around the limits of original hardware, without "cheating" with modern expansion chips. Same even with most new homebrew games for Atari 2600, which uses new chips and memory, to make it do things, which was impossible with original cartridges. Now it's even possible to show FMV on the 2600.
If you add a Ferrari engine, to an old Fiat, is it really a Fiat anymore? πŸ˜‚

Re: Want Your Very Own Sega Neptune? You'll Need A Spare $2,600

Steel76

Owned a 32x for a while, 12 years ago. But compared to the Mega CD, that got plenty of great games, like Snatcher, Robo Aleste, Lord of Thunder etc. , the tiny 32x library is just not worth the insane amount of money it goes for these days. Still, Afterburner and Space Harrier, was the best ports available, at the time. Very impressive.

Re: Review: Evercade Alpha - This $250 Bartop Arcade Is A Glorious Gateway To Hundreds Of Retro Classics

Steel76

Button layout might work for Street Fighter, but it sucks for everything else.

Also, no way to rotate the screen, for vertical games, also sucks. It's something even the tiny Egret II mini could do. The screen is so small, that it will be difficult to see the bullets, when you can only play it, in horizontal mode, with borders. My old eyes, just can't survive that πŸ˜‚

Re: "The Project Is A Complete Scam" - The Internet Isn't Convinced By The SuperSega FPGA Console

Steel76

It's so easy to find these SEGA systems in the wild.
And with cheap solutions, like a Rad2X cable, you can hook it up to a modern TV, without any problems. Plus you get the real systems, compared to FPGA, which still isn't perfect.
I got sound issues with my Mega SG, on games like Rastan and the new Darius arcade port, that will never be fixed by Analogue, as they have moved on to the newer systems.
I got so frustrated, that I went back to original hardware instead.
Same with my Super NT, which has graphical glitches on Pocky and Rocky.

FPGA is great, but it's still not 100 procent perfect all the time.

Re: Limited Run Co-Founder Claims Selling CD-Rs To Customers Was Always The Idea

Steel76

@Bod2019
Yeah, Retro-Bit would have done a great job, with a Earthion release. Why do these companies STILL team up with Limited Run??? Been waiting a long time for the game, and this news, just killed any plans to buy it physically. I'll just buy the rom.
But hopefully, someone else makes a physical cart of it, in the future. I would rather just buy a bootleg cart, than support LRG.

Re: Pre-Orders For FPGA N64 'Analogue 3D' Open Next Week, Will Cost $250

Steel76

I hope it improves the framerates, so it can stay locked at 30 or 60fps.
I've been emulating N64 games, and they run much better, than original hardware.
The framerates on N64 games, are even worse than I remembered, on the console.
The worst I have encountered, was below 10 fps.
So I quickly gave up on real hardware, and emulated again.

But this might be a great alternative now.

Re: Talking Point: Is There Such A Thing As "Bad" Nostalgia?

Steel76

Problem is, when people are stuck with nostalgia glasses on.
Yeah, the 80:s was fun, but there was just as many problems back then, as today. Everyone remembers the era, they grew up in, as the best decade ever. Sadly some get so brutally stuck in that childhood nostalgia, that they didn't evolve beyond that.
And the "Retro" companies, knows how to feed upon those.

Re: New Storefront Law Tells Us What We All Should Know: We Don't Own Digital Games

Steel76

I haven't lost one single digital game.
Been buying digital on PC for 17 years now.
And I can still redownload games that you can't buy anymore, on PS3 and the 360.
And I got so many digital games for older system, backed up on harddrives.
I buy both digital and physical on console, mostly digital for indie games. Though I'm starting to get tired of all the physical clutter. It takes up so much space. But I still hope that physical stays, for the next couple of console generations.
And I hope that we'll get the option, to trade or sell our digital games, in the future.
