Re: Creator Of New Open-Source Game Boy Disagrees That FPGA Is Superior To Software Emulation

Steel76

Had issues with some games on the Mega SG and Super NT, that works perfect on software emulation. And as usual, Analogue leaves the old FPGA consoles in the dust, even when there is bugs left to fix. So I went back to original hardware instead.
Still got an Analogue Pocket though.

I know the FPGA elite, won't admit to these things. As emulation is a dirty word to them

As long as it plays the game correctly, I don't care if it's hardware or software emulation.

Re: Yuzo Koshiro Already Has Plans For His Next Game, But It Depends On Earthion Sales

Steel76

"Earthion will be coming to modern platforms first, then the Mega Drive Genesis."

*****! Well that wasn't the original plan, as it was made for Mega Drive first. Limited Run will probably take another year to release the damn cartridge. Was hoping that we could at least buy a rom file, to use in our flashcarts...

I don't understand why they didn't go with Retro-Bit instead...

Re: Looks Like Yuzo Koshiro's Earthion Isn't Far From Release

Steel76

Hope we can buy the rom, to use with a Everdrive on real hardware.
I don't really wanna support Limited Run. But for this one, I might make an exception.
Though it will probably take forever for them to release the damn cart.

Pure insanity, that they choose Limited Run, instead of Retro-bit...

Re: Unreleased Atari Jaguar Title 'Livewire' Getting Physical Release Decades Later

Steel76

@slider1983

I'm a Swede, and grew up on both japan consoles and Euro games on C64/Amiga. And especially the Euro platformers and shooters on 16 bit computers/consoles was mediocre.
Nice graphics, but the controls, hit detection, level layout, etc. was very janky, compared to what we got from Japan. The Germans made some good stuff though, like Turrican.

Overall, arcade styled games, developed in the west, on any system, was mediocre, back then.

Re: Talking Point: Is There A Home Port You Prefer To The Arcade Original?

Steel76

Basically most Konami and Capcom arcade game, got a better balanced home port on the NES/SNES, and often also with different gameplay mechanics. Like Gunsmoke. I hate the arcade version, but the NES version, is one of my favorite games on the system.
Contra and Super C, is also way better than the arcade versions.
The arcade originals, where just made to eat your coins, and often the arcade operators, set the dip switches at hard mode.

Re: Interview: Taki Udon Explains How His FPGA PS1 Aims To "Remove Barriers" To FPGA Gaming

Steel76

Not including a disc drive on that FPGA console, is a big mistake.
Better to just stick with emulation or that new cheaper MiSTer Pi.

I got my original PS1 connected through a OSSC scaler, and a 8bitdo adapter so I can use any PS controller. So I'll rather stick with that solution.

If you got an original console laying around, and wanna use it on a modern TV. Get this cable. Got one for my girlfriend, and it works great.

Re: Valve's Unshackling Of SteamOS Could Give Switch 2 Some Welcome Competition

Steel76

I just hope that Steam OS will get native support for all gaming apps. It was a hassle to use Linux (it complicated for a new user), to get some stuff to work, on the Steam Deck, but I guess things have improved now?
At the moment I have a Rog Ally X, and I love the freedom and how easy it is to add stuff, in Windows.
But if SteamOS, will deliver everything we PC gamers need, even on a desktop, then I will gladly leave Windows behind.
Gonna give Bazzite a try soon, on my Ally X.

Re: Random: This US Bakery Still Uses A Commodore 64 For Sales In 2024

Steel76

One thing is for sure, they don't need to deal with Windows, and worry about hackers 😁

I used to work in a videostore, 20 years ago, and the computer we used, had been in service since the 80:s. The program we used was flawless, and ΓΌber easy to work with. Then the boss upgraded to a Windows PC, and suddenly, we were stuck with a ***** program, that often crashed, and was way more annoying to use.

No point in upgrading, if the stuff you got, no matter how old, still works flawlessly.

Re: Sega's Western CEO Isn't Interested In Saturn And Dreamcast Mini Consoles

Steel76

There are an endless supply of emulator consoles, that can play Saturn and Dreamcast now. Both Saturn (which I love) and Dreamcast flopped hard, and I doubt that mini consoles would sell well, outside of our niche retro community.
NES and SNES mini was huge sellers, but those are WAY more popular and mainstream. Except for people like us, noone knows about the Saturn and Dreamcast today.
Even Playstation mini was a flop.

Why spend money, to manufacture something, that will only sell to a small group of hardcore SEGA retro fans? They would only end up loosing money.
They should just release collections of the games, on modern systems and PC.

Re: If PS2 Launched In 2024, This Is What Its Reveal Trailer Would Look Like

Steel76

I wish it was the PS2 era, all over again, when the game industry wasn't a complete mess.
When games were released in a finished state. Sure still some bugs from time to time, but nothing major as today, when most big titles are beta/broken on release.
Getting multiple GTA games, in one generation, instead of one game 15 years apart.
Even AAA games still had fun artstyle, instead of boring realism. And most important of all, we didn't drown in remasters and remakes.

Still today, I find games on the PS2 (got one modded with a HDD), that I've never knew about, or had the chance to play back then, that I often end up having more fun with, compared to modern AAA and indie games.

Buy maybe I'll feel the same way about the PS5, during the PS8 era, when things have gotten WAY worse πŸ˜‚

Re: Here's A Better Look At The Promising "All-In-One" MiSTer FPGA Console, Multisystem 2

Steel76

I'm done with FPGA consoles.
I have owned Mega SG and Super NT, but there was graphical/sound issues on a couple of games, that will never get fixed, due to them not updating them anymore.
So I went back to original consoles. Much cheaper, and if you don't have a scaler, you can just get a Rad2X cable instead, to easily connect and get good PQ on a modern TV.

I bet the OG consoles, will outlive the FPGA hardware.

Re: 'Faster' Is A Seriously Smooth New Racing Game For The Atari STE

Steel76

I wish the ST port of Outrun, ran like this, instead of the slideshows we got, when an arcade game was ported.
Prime example, that the hardware wasn't the problem, but a mix of talentless programmers, and greedy companies, that only gave them like two weeks (probably more, but you get my point) to finish the games.
