Re: Blaze Confirms One Million Evercade Cartridge Milestone, Ex-Eidos Boss Joins As Chairman

Azuris

@Steel76

A very early 2000s MP3 Player still works with its 256 MB.
It is sometimes Gamble, but Flash isn't as bad as some think.

I would love the Option to save on the System or USB, so you could even give it a longer Life, as Writing is the Bady for this Technology.

Btw. the only Flash Card that died for me was from Samsung, but Samsung is known to make Products that fail shortly after two Years (out of most european Warranties by Law).

To the Evercade:

Bought one this Month because i wanted a dedicated System with a Limitation in Games for me.
I played very much, Duke Nukem Time to Kill is very good and Sword of Ianna.

I also discovered for me that Team 17 Games are crap, yes, even Alien Breed, hate the bad Game Design.

The Renovation Module is also very good.

@Damo

Absolutly right, here will even the Switch itself die.
Not sure how easily it is to exchange it, also considering all those safety measures to keep hacking away.

So it is possible that a dead Switch will stay dead.

Guess the only Way to keep Games and Systems alive for the Future is really DRM Free, as on Gog, and Emulation or FPGA.

At some Point even spare Parts will run out for old fixeble Consoles.

Edit2

I also want to consider, some of those 20 Moneys Collections are cheaper than buying the Games separately on Gog/Steam or elsewhere.

Re: Here's A First Look At The SN Operator, Your Next Essential SNES Accessory

Azuris

@RetroGames

Yep, i guess this is more for people like me that already have a Super Nintendo Collection, rather than People that want to start one.

I personally have a Retrode2, but such devices are nice to backup Save Games and put some back you have played on Emulator, Everdrive or FPGA.

The nice Thing about the Retrode2 are also the Controller Ports.

I played Doom 2016 with the Super Nintendo Mouse for fun and i can use the 8Bitdo Mega Drive wireless Controller with it, as it only works with the 2,4Ghz Dongle wireless.

People that don't have a Collection, don't start it.
The Prices are insane and getting good Quality is hard.
Even oficial Repros are variing in Quality (Retrobit have been fine till yet, others as Wild Guns not so).

Re: A Powerful New FPGA Rival To MiSTer And MARS Is In Development

Azuris

@DestructoDisk
Haha i know, you need a big FPGA that could do all that.
But we can have wishes with Machines that eventually will not be cheap

For Windows 98 i got myself a small HP Machine.
Its a bit bigger than the Mister and thats nice... Space is rare nowadays
Also got a PS2 Slim... Guess having these three i am good covered in my gaming Corner

Re: The Nokia N-Gage May Have Sucked, But It Had Rollback Netcode In 2003

Azuris

@UK_Kev

i think this is the Error, they did miscalculate that, People were ready to have a mobile Phone with full Handheld Gaming System included.
The N-Gage got a lot of Coverage in Gaming Magazines, more than others that tried.
For Example, i remember the Gizmodo having been mentioned partly in the cramped Pages in the End, but it didn't got that Attention.
In the End, Nokia had a good Reputation.

Re: This NES Clone Has RGB, S-Video And HDMI Output

Azuris

@GhaleonUnlimited
Well, can't tell it for sure, i was very young, but for me until the Super Nintendo came out and i do remember that there were still Floppies sold 1992 in Super Markets comparable to something like Walmart/Tesco in the US.

Re: This NES Clone Has RGB, S-Video And HDMI Output

Azuris

@GhaleonUnlimited

In Europe it wasn't as widespread, depending the Country, you had more Commodore 64, Amstrad etc.
So the Prices are worse here, sadly also for the Super Nintendo, even if it was way way more around.
If i wouldn't have all those Games since my Childhood, i think i wouldn't collect them Nowadays

Re: Rare SNES Prototype Auction Cancelled After Passing The $2 Million Mark

Azuris

@bring_on_branstons

I guess it was a cost or technological limitation of the time, i was pretty sure i have seen some third party adapers for the Super Nintendo and a quick online search shows me two, one even from Retrobit.
The one from Retrobit needs an additional cable to plug it into your TV and uses the SNES solely for power supply and controller.
Guess if Nintendo would do it themself, they surely could use it entirely as the Super Gameboy without that need.
But yes, i think we can see why they didn't release theirs, too big/clunky and no real benefit.
Btw. the Famicom Modules are small and cute, in the West with an adapter on the Super Nintendo it becomes a real tower haha.

Re: FPGA Vs Software Emulation - Which Is Best? We Asked Four Experts To Find Out

Azuris

There are many vendors out there that sell the Mister ready to go preensembled.
But yes, the Price has gone up very much, so i hope for everyone else that the Clone Board will be fine and make the Mister more available.

I am not against Emulation, love it, but to play on FPGA really is a different Thing, as it is not distinguishiable to the original Hardware.
A Game i am failing all the Time on Emulation is Contra on the Super Nintendo.

Also Consoles start to fail and bring them up to modern Levels wirh HDMI, Bluetooth, Everdrives, Stuff agains Region Lock can become very expansive.
Lets see:
Super Nintendo 80€
OSSC 160€ or Rad2X Cable 55€
Bluetooth Adaptor from 8Bitdo 20€
SD2SNES/FXPakPro 275€

Re: iPhone NES Emulator Pulled From App Store "Out Of Fear"

Azuris

Would be easier to just buy a Device that isn't as overpriced and closed.
My Motorola did cost 300€ and it runs all kind of Stuff vers nice, mostly i am using Devilution X (Diablo) with a Controller, as i am not the biggest Fan of Touch Controls.
PSX and N64 Emulation does run very nice, didn't try anything above, but a Source Port of Doom 3 runs with about 25 fps, but i haven't tested it much, Quake 3 runs flawlessly.
And yes, i have a USB Hub at Work, so i can just play with Keyboard and Mouse haha
Dosbox Magic does cost, but it is pretty well done to make an easy use on such a Device.

Re: Evercade Is Getting New "Giga Carts" To Allow For Bigger Games

Azuris

@snk2d4life

Yes, but to the human being it just feels better
Just open a NES or SNES module, the former ones have more air than hardware, the snes ones are also only half filled, if the don't use additional chips, battery etc.

Also, it is much nicer to have the Artwork and logos visible on the module, i often like them

Re: All Is Not Well In The World Of FPGA Retro Gaming

Azuris

@jbrodack

It is in case of Accuracy and CPU Power needed to do the same Task.

To Emulate via Software you need a much beefier CPU/GPU than the original System had and even than you have to make Compromises, depending on the System smaller or bigger ones.

You can see this especially with the N64.
Or my 58003D CPU, it can't emulate a Pentium 2 with 300 mhz properly, even if both are X86 and are closer as the CPU of the N64.

But both are not concurring, i use both and original Systems and love to have the Freedom nowadays to play in all possible Ways.
The Research in both also benefits each.

The Mister is also a good everything in One Device.
Upscaler, Everdrive, Console.

Good RGB Cables, OSSC and Everdrive are expansive, if i had knew beforehead, maybe i would have spared Money on some Consoles

And yes, some Games i prefer absolutely on original Hardware, such as Contra 3.
My Muscle Memory is just tooo adopted to it, i am failing all the Time on Emulation

Re: All Is Not Well In The World Of FPGA Retro Gaming

Azuris

Were people are, is Drama.
The Mister is a real Dream Machine, i would have never thought that we'll see PSX and mostly the N64 on it, i even got my original Save Games to run on it

So Kudos to all the People that worked on it with all the different Systems and Cores.

I guess they did need a Shield and Spokesman, that catches all the bad Stuff that can appear from People.
