@N00BiSH You are also not the first one to complain about someone expressing their distaste for the chosen art style. You could apply your own advice to yourself.
Slider1983 didn't insult you (unless you were the art director for RTMI), so you should probably lay off and try to be a bit more respectful.
King's Quest 6 is my favorite point and click adventure and in the list of 5 games dearest to my heart (in no particular order: Faxanadu, King's Quest 6, Final Fantasy 6, Secret of Monkey Island, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario Bros. 2) so it's wonderful to see any news on the game pop up.
As a kid, I was happy to experience graphics advancing AWAY from VGA to the much more lush and sophisticated SVGA 256 color quality. I LOVED the stylized art design of KQ6 from the first opening moment on the beach all the way through the land of the dead and beyond. However, I truly appreciate that someone dedicated time (two decades!?) To de-making the game, and can't wait to give it a run through!
M2 was my dream machine. It was all set to be my platform of choice going into that next generation. I was heartbroken when it was canceled. Having Sega and EA as first or second party developers would have given it some oomph, but I don't think anything was going to stop Sony's success considering they had FF7 on the horizon... unless Matsushita could have convinced Square to bring it to M2 as well. Coming off of CD-i Philips involvement probably would have hurt more than helped M2's reputation.
Absolute travesty that this entire series has only sold a million copies since inception. Lunar 1 and 2 are masterpieces. Legendary art, music, story, pacing. I would love to see Game Arts come back strong with new Lunar and Grandia. I would also love to see Lufia and Breath of Fire make a comeback too.
@ferryb001 There are several charities people can donate to that utilize funds broadly to cover as many affected individuals as possible. This story, on a gaming centric platform, focuses in more topically on an individual who has made a significant impact in the world of gaming.
Because these were designed by the creator of the survival horror masterpiece, Alone in the Dark, they've been on my 'must play' list since forever. I really need to get around to playing them.
Dreamcast could have been a contender, if it had DVD playback capability. PS2 knocked everybody else aside with that Trojan horse strategy. DC really was an amazing system. The graphics were just beautiful at launch compared to anything else out there. On 9.9.99 I bought a piece of the future, and it was sweet. I've always been a Nintendo main, but I sure miss when Sega made consoles.
@smoreon I was thinking the same thing. Some of the shots are probably doable, like the potionarium, but you wouldn't have trees blurring out of focus in those open environment shots. You would just have fog obscuring anything further than about 15 in-game feet from the character. Still, I was a huuuuge fan of my N64 (Castlevania 64 is my second fave in the series and I actually enjoyed both Quest 64 and Aidyn's Chronicles... yes, I'm probably sick) and I would love for Shovel Knight 64 to eventually be a thing!
The man is right. Although, despite the strides made by western developers over the past 2 decades, I don't feel anyone right now, east or west, matches up with the pure genius and game creation prowess of the japanese from 1985-2001. They were sages who understood game design on a deeper level. The balance of simplicity vs complexity, risk vs reward, the wonder of exploration and discovery, the interwoven marriage of music with narrative pacing, unbridled creativity in character, background and story design and on and on and on. The player could die 1,000 times and loved every second. I think that DNA still lives on in Japanese games, although there is too much of a tendency to copy and recreate what works from a financial perspective, leading to too much redundancy and too little creativity today. Kind of like modern anime.
This one is not hard. While all of Nintendo's systems have been special in their own way, the last time Nintendo offered the most sophisticated home console of a generation, that wasn't gimped in some way due to a short sighted decision, was the Super Nintendo. Superior color/sprite capability, superior sound technology versus contemporary consoles such as the Genesis and Turbografx.
Every system that came later was held back in some way. N64 went with limited capacity cartridges vs. CD-Rom; GameCube used Mini optical discs and had no embedded DVD player vs. what the PS2 offered; The Wii, Wii U and Switch all possessed compromised graphic hardware and processing power versus their contemporaries.
I loved all those systems, and have been loyal to Nintendo through each generation, retaining their home console as my primary gaming platform each cycle, but the last time it truly felt like they were at the top of the world, kicking ass and taking names (as a certain Regginator would put it) was coming off of the momentum of the NES and evolving into the gorgeous pixel art, lush soundtracks and expanded gaming landscapes provided by the SNES. Their other systems are still some of my all time favorites, especially N64 and Gamecube, but I wish Nintendo had allowed those systems to be the market dominating machines they were capable of being.
I love early Falcom. Faxanadu is my favorite game of all time (although I know, developed by Hudson Soft), Xanadu Next was awesome (played via gog) and I'm playing through (and completely mapping on graph paper) Legacy of the Wizard right now. Although the mapping is taking FOREVER.
I desperately wish they would have brought over more of the early entries in the Dragonslayer, Xanadu and Sorcerian franchises. I want to play them all!!
Well, I like this idea. For retro game collectors, like myself who have a substantial number of physical games, and don't want to be bothered with the hassle of finding emulators and roms (are there even any functional sites remaining?), and wasting time configuring them to work, this sounds like a clean, simple to use solution. I would really only be interested in using the service until my actual Polymega arrives (if it ever does....) but until then, this seems pretty cool! Looking forward to trying out some Saturn and PS1 RPG's through this.
Killer Instinct WAS the future when it hit arcades. Nothing else came close to matching it's slick cgi visuals and effects lighting. It seemed premium and a cut above anything else out there. I was so proud to be a Nintendo faithful and see their logo proudly emblazoned at the start of each attract reel loop. I wish Nintendo had continued to compete in the visuals and tech departments, but everything changed after Gamecube....
@Alucard83 I agree with you about the weakened quality of OST's versus older games. I don't know why that became the trend, but I miss when games had amazing soundtracks.
Just Beat: Skyrim-Anniversary Edition (Xbox Series X)
Now Playing: Star Ocean-The Last Hope (Xbox 360)
Up Next: Perfect Dark Zero (Xbox 360)
Beginning with the NES as our first console, I was Nintendo faithful through every subsequent generation. I branched out into secondary consoles a bit with 3DO, Dreamcast, PS1 and PS4 but always mained on Nintendo. Because of that, I missed the entire rise of Xbox along the way. I bought a Series X last year and have been enjoying its backward compatibility!
The Xbox had a few strains within its catalog that were natural extensions of my playing tastes. It had some amazing JRPG content on the 360 with Mistwalker and Tri-Ace bringing some AAA content to the system. With Rare jumping over the fence, I get to see a little of their evolution, and what they would have potentially offered on an HD Nintendo system, if one would have been brought to market prior to the Wii U.
I'm also looking forward to Starfield, the Perfect Dark reboot and the new Xbox exclusive Indiana Jones game. So, I'll return to my beloved retro systems in due course. Lufia & the Fortress of Doom (SNES), Dragon Quest 6 (SNES) and Guardian War (3DO) are all in the queue, but I want to take some time savoring what the Xbox has to offer for just a moment first.
I ordered my Polymega bundle back in November of last year. Sadly that puts me pretty much at the end of the line so probably won't see mine for a looooooooooong time.

Re: EA Founder Denies Giving Sony The Idea For PlayStation
I loved 3DO and wish we would have gotten the Panasonic M2 as a competitor to N64 and Dreamcast. It could have been a very different gaming landscape.
Re: Polymega Gets Classic Arcade Games Via Physical "Polymega Collection" Series
@MediaKing Exactly. What good are games that can only be played on a Polymega, when no one can get a Polymega?
I had tried to get one for years, before finally giving up.

Hutchinson sounds like someone who would have a problem with Dhalsim's design. Ignore her pretend (race obsessed) controversy and move along.

I love the EGG Console series. I'm buying the whole library and playing through the Japanese portions with Google Lens.

Hell yeah! I'm on board. The game was a cool, original concept and the characters themselves were very creative. Could be a great film!
