Re: Collector Finds Rare Philips CD-i Hotel Mario Prototype In Goodwill

Magrane

@ArcadianLegend99 Well, he’s not saying he won’t do it IF he does collect enough subscribers. I think it’s completely fair asking for something so menial in return, as opposed to actual currency. Which any relic finder is allowed to do unless a heritage law exists.

He has no obligation whatsoever to release it to any one. One gesture of goodwill (pun intended) deserves another.

Re: Duke Nukem Cover Artist Replaced Over Use Of AI Tools

Magrane

@no_donatello I guess in the end, art is art. But it can be taken to offense to those that (a) expect this to be drawn by an artist to showcase his/her/their actual talent versus five-minute AI generated visuals….with no sense of QC by the way, and (b) believe AI is taking the jobs of harder working individuals who probably deserve a high-profile opportunity!

I sincerely commend those who complained and recognized it as a cash grab for non-artistic AI visionaries.

Re: Now's The Time To Hack Your 3DS

@Krambo42 you can make the same argument that they’re losing out on money because…….they simply closed the shop? I wanted to buy these games legitimately that last week until I misplaced my 3DS! Now I have no choice but to pirate the digital only exclusive titles.

It’s either that or never ethically play them simply because I never not only paid for them, but never will have the chance to.

Mind you, for the anti pirate stalwart that I am, I’m in good conscience okay with this decision.

Re: Retro-Bit Announces Battletoads & Double Dragon And Gleylancer Reprints

@Serpenterror I do understand your viewpoint however for me because it’s an official licensed release versus someone just putting it together with no prior permission, that it qualifies as non-repro. Sega doesn’t own the IP or we would see their name on it. Also I don’t think they can add the Sega approved seal anymore OFFICIALLY as they don’t give it out anymore.

Re: MediEvil Designer Is Selling His Entire Archive Of Design Docs For The Game

I wish this guy a lot of luck. First of all, I hope he finds a museum or collector that pays for this. He is right in marketing the package as a piece of development history. Second, I wish Sony would do the right thing and grant this man those royalties in a book publishing deal. I understand the corporate thinking of setting precedent but why not do so in kindness and generosity as the motive to a man who needs the money.

Re: Best Of 2021: The Story Of The Game Genie, The Cheat Device Nintendo Tried (And Failed) To Kill

@Torn completely agree. You will be taken advantage of if you don’t advocate yourself sooner than later. This comes from naïvete so I get it, but it’s awful how greedy people can be to those who CLEARLY made a huge contribution. Shame on their wicked nature.

@Zebetite a little harsh there on Kiyata, no? I think Kiyata’s angle came from the competitive aspect than just criticism of your own personal gaming time. There is a difference on how you beat a game - if you modded it, you cheated plain and simple. But like you said , after accepting that, it doesn’t really matter how you play the game as long as you are having fun. And I don’t see how gaming is a waste of time, even if it did not contribute to society. If it’s not an addiction, there’s a lot toward mental health when it comes to relaxing and doing “nothing”.

I believe the Game Genie disappeared when the PS joined the show and ppl preferred to use the “Game Shark” instead......

Re: Random: Performing Combos In The Worst Version Of Street Fighter II Is Pretty Hard, But Possible

I remember how expensive the SNES version cost back then on release day due to expected demand ($60-64 is what I paid and that was a super big deal since games capped off at about $50). The hype was real. But I would not say it was the price of a Game Boy plus this version of the game unless you did NOT shop around and decided to buy all your SNES games at Electronics Boutique. They were always marked up.

Also - I agree with the comments in this article where the game was actually fun to play acknowledging it was a descaled version. And dropped heavily on prices years later once it hit gold status.

Re: Feature: The Past, Present And Future of Geek Chic with iam8bit

I appreciate companies that invest in the retro culture and just....do it right. I remember the various iam8bit promotions, including when they had a Rhythm Heaven Wii release party in Los Angeles. I'm a big fan of their products and I'm happy to hear they are publishing Switch games now. Looking forward to (I'm assuming) physical releases of even more digital games.

I'm still jealous I don't have a physical copy of Mega Man 9 😊 I think they did a promotion for Mega Man 10 too, when they showed up in a food truck here in Downtown Los Angeles and handed out E-Tank boxes of t-shirts?
