@infernogott @KeyBladeMaster-Dan - The Ouya was a beautiful console physically. I had the copper brown one. They put a lot of effort in and had a number of Android developers on board. The games were generally much better quality than what I'm seeing with this Amico.
But I could see the Ouya floundering and sold mine before it took a total dive. One of my biggest annoyances was audio delay, like a 300ms delay between hitting an attack button and hearing the attack sound. Audio latency was apparently inherent in the Android OS (at least back then), so it was not a fixable problem. I'm sure having wireless controllers made the latency worse too. Then the games seemed to grind to a halt.
Even the big console companies are scrambling to figure out how to compete with mobile gaming, so coming out with any new console is a huge risk these days.
So it's a console for clueless senior citizens and has those horrible pre-rendered 3D graphics from 1997? 😬
I wanted to like this but most of those games look worse than mobile, and not in a good retro way.
Chucking in a couple remakes of Genesis games doesn't really help.
This was a good writeup 👍 I had the Game Genie for Gameboy and loved it. It had a handy little button on it for you to disable/enable the codes mid-game. So if things got janky, you could turn off the codes temporarily and it would often save your butt without having to restart.
It came with a little code book, but it didn't have as many codes as I hoped. But I spent a lot of time trying to find my own codes and still have a little notebook with the codes I found.
@tntswitchfan68 "i am a real gamer. i do not have to cheat."
For me it wasn't about cheating, it was about breathing new life into games I'd already played to death. Or beating a game that was simply too difficult no matter how hard I tried (Robocop, Battletoads).
I also loved to chuck in random codes to see if I could find something cool, or totally glitch things up so the levels would look completely different.
RoboCop for Gameboy was hard as hell, but I played it a lot only to hear the excellent tunes 👍
Actually, that YouTube link to the title theme is my own upload, recorded from my GameBoy (no, I don't get any money from YouTube for it).
He also did the tunes for Jurassic Park 2 for GameBoy which I really like.
Jonathan Dunn was one of the few that brought fast C64-style arpeggiated chords to the GameBoy. The technique just wasn't being used by Japanese composers, and in my opinion, it sounded better coming out of the refined GameBoy audio chip than the C64.
I think the style was even harder to find on the NES. Neil Baldwin was an NES composer that also used C64 techniques. Neil had a fascinating blog called Duty Cycle Generator where he talked about making music on the NES.
Ohhh I didn’t realize it was him that did the trance music for Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune games. It’s one of the few times I’ve liked modern game music enough to download a few tracks. Stream of Tears - https://youtu.be/TFJq4hB3Swc Cause You’re Different - https://youtu.be/4hDBMDWdvXw
When I was a kid, I often played the TurboGrafx 16 at department stores in the US. At one department store, they had the SNES, TurboGrafx 16, and Sega Genesis set up so customers could play. The TG16 would usually have the Bonk cartridge plugged in (the SNES had Super Mario World, and the Genesis had Sonic 1).
I think the case of the US TurboGrafx 16 looks a lot better. That white and orange PC Engine box looks like a chinese rip-off 😅
But yeah, the TG16 didn't really have the games that kids wanted to play. Bonk and Adventure Island were ok... but they weren't cool like Sonic, and didn't have the wow factor of the newly released Super Mario "4".
Is there really room for another home console when people can just play similar games on their mobile? Ouya tried their best, but it didn't work out.
The more they leave the old Intellivision behind, the better, so the idea of a totally revamped console is interesting. But just focus on newer/revamped games. Nobody wants to play original games that old. The NES is as far back as most people want to go. Anything earlier only gets picked up for 2 minutes. Seriously, how long can you play Pacman or Space Invaders before you start watching grass grow instead?

Re: Random: What Happens When You Remove Charles Barkley From His Own Video Game?
This is why you don't do stupid licenced games, the benefit is short-lived.

Re: Castlevania: Rondo Of Blood Is Finally Coming To The West In Physical Form
If I remember right, the difference was some cutscenes and a CD-quality soundtrack.
I did love the music from the first stage.

Re: Hardware Review: Capcom Home Arcade Is The Most Ludicrous Micro-Console Yet, And We're In Love
I've never liked Capcom's blue and yellow logo. The colour and font combination looks amateur and cheesy to me 🤔
So this unit looks pretty ugly, IMO.

Re: Atari Comes Under Fire For Seemingly Knowing Very Little About Its Crowdfunded VCS Console
So it can play crappy Atari games and 4K video....that means it's no more powerful than a cheap chinese media player box.
Seriously, there just isn't a market for this.
