Genesis and Dreamcast are always the ones voted for, so I gave my vote to Game Gear as it was my first Sega and the one I spent the most time playing as a kid and collecting for as an adult.
I recall prices of games being $50 from NES to PS2. But I also recall some games being more... around $70. It just depended on where you bought. My uncle got me Judge Dredd for Genesis the month it released and I remember that one being $50.
Still, the article makes a valid point. Even if games were $50 back in the day, with as much as it costs to make a game these days, I'm not put out by the difference.
I'm a big Game Gear fan and see a lot of great titles missing. Most notably:
Jurassic Park
Sonic Triple Trouble
Ecco the Dolphin
Road Rash
Judge Dredd
Micro Machines
Battletoads
Sonic Spinball
Lost World
Star Trek AHT
I appreciate the nod to my favorite handheld though. It's often overlooked or completely forgotten. I still wish a Ninja Turtles game would have released on it.
Compilations like Cowabunga Collection and Sonic Origins are always welcome and I'll happily shell out for them (pun intended), but the problem is many favorite retro games DON'T get the re-release treatment. Heck, it was a miracle that the Cowabunga Collection even happened given the state of Konami over the past decade.
So what about games like Jurassic Park based on the first and second movie? Those will never get re-released on modern systems due to the different versions and who owns what rights to what parts. It's a huge cluster F. Games like those, originals or ROM downloads are the only option.
I honestly don't see it happening. Best we could hope for was a console that was backwards compatible with Sega's catalog from SG1000 to Current and that all Sega new Sega games would also release on it. I don't believe Sega would make their games exclusive to it.
I only have one, the Everdrive X7 for Sega Game Gear. The reason I got it are the ones you listed above in the article but I also don't have a ton of space to put an entire Game Gear collection.
I ended up buying actual copies of ones I really wanted to play and have about 35-40 games. Then I shrugged and went with the Everdrive. At one point I was determined to even mod Streets of Rage for it and play it with the Everdrive but I didn't have the time.
My Everdrive saved me thousands but at the same time, if Sega released a Game Gear collection with dozens of games on modern systems, I'd still buy it just to play them in HD as I still don't have an updated screen mod on my actual Game Gear.
@Father-Noo Thank you. It was my Pandemic Project. Took about 2 1/2 years and kept me creative.
Each box has a...
Complete copy of a game from the series represented.
Timeline of the series
3D scene
Push button speaker that cycles through songs from the series.
I decided to do one per generation that I've been gaming. I did the Destiny one for my brother for Christmas 2021. So far, Witcher series and A Plague Tale series are in competition for the PS5 gen... but it's far from over.
I honestly don't recall much on the different soundtrack but it's always fun hearing these bits of info from the past.
I was lucky enough to end up with the original DC release. Bought it because it came with the RE2 demo and I really wanted to play it. This same copy is hanging on my wall of fame in a shadowbox I created. You can check a pic of it in the link below. Resident Evil was my favorite series from its 1996 release all the way through RE5 in 2009.
Cool reminder of this game. I picked it up with the system for a steal when it was on its way out of retail. This was a favorite game in the VB library for me. I even beat it a couple times.
I have access to every Game Gear game playable on the same handheld I've had since I was 10 years old. I still absolutely love it but I'm thinking I'd rather have a mini Dreamcast so long as it had the following:
Ecco
Daytona
Seaman
Crazy Taxi
Space Channel 5
Virtua Fighter
I'd have thrown Shenmue in there but I have those on my PS4/5 now.
Looking forward to seeing what TE has to offer. I believe the best that gaming has to offer is behind us so I may spend more time here than PushSquare eventually if it's regularly updated with interesting content.

My top 5:
Re: Best Nintendo Systems - Every Nintendo Console, Ranked By You
Virtual Boy is probably in the correct spot in reality but honestly, as Wii ruined me on Nintendo for nearly a decade, I'm putting that at the bottom.
1. GC
2. NES
3. SNES
4. Switch
5. GBA
6. 3DS
7. GB/GBC
8. N64
9. Virtual Boy
10. Wii-U
11. Wii

@belmont You can get them repaired. That's what I did with mine. Check out www.estarland.com. They should be able to help you out.
Re: Not Used Your Wii U In A While? It Might Be Dead
Glad to have skipped the system entirely but my question now is if the Switch will be susceptible to the same issue in the near future?
Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles And Street Fighter Clash In New Comic Series
Interesting. I'll wait to see how the writing is.
Re: Review: Retro-Bit 'BIG6' Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Controller - Bigger Is Better
I might pick up one of these for my retro pi. Looks good but I agree. Start button should be raised at minimum.

@XiaoShao Japan only, I believe. Same with the yellow. N. America only had the regular color and blue with the Lion King release.

Re: Act Fast, Daytona USA And Jet Set Radio Are Being Removed From Xbox 360 Marketplace
Maybe if we're lucky this will prompt Sega to finally give us Saturn and Dreamcast compilations for the modem systems.

Re: Streets Of Rage 2 Gets Tubular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Hack
Ok. Now mod SoR2 for Game Gear and Ninja Turtles it up. I'd pay money.
Re: Poll: What Was Your Favourite Game Of Christmas 2012?
Mass Effect 3 and Resident Evil 6 were at the top of my list that year. ME3 still holds up.
