@RetroGamer07 You've got to see it from Evercades pov, - If this was available on digital platforms then everyone would get it on Switch and the Evercade team would be closer to a failed product. This is their baby, and they have essentially secured their main exclusive for it with this collection - and the biggest and only reason I might buy an Evercade. Sure it'd be better for us if there released on digital platforms, but for them - not so much. They probably had to do a lot of work to make this collection become a thing also, so maybe without Evercade there would be no talk of these games coming back onto the market at all.
@kingbk Yeah I can see that. I have Nieces and a Nephew and although they have both beaten BOTW and a few others, I think generally what you are saying seems true. God I hope there is still Single player campaign games in the future. I was never huge on multiplayer when I had gaming mates around, or online much (I've enjoyed a few online exceptions). For me gaming is best enjoyed as a start and finish absorption - like reading a good novel (again on my own). For that reason I also tend to avoid endless games more and more these days too. I want to see the story end and move on to a new one. Maybe gamers like me are on borrowed time?
@kingbk maybe not - but that generation will maybe/likely try to relive those 'good old days' just as previous generations did. It'll be different for sure - but no retro games scene? I'm not sure about that. I retro game to finish a few unfinished and missed titles of my youth and maybe they will too.
People seem to forget that Nintendolife is not an official Nintendo news outlet. They can cover, and say what they like and you have choice as to whether you visit their site.
I emulate - but I don't steal - yes it's a grey area, but if, like I do, you find a way to pay for everything you play I don't see the problem. Playing games you don't pay for, I personally I'm not ok with.
That's nice to see such generosity - also curious as to which charity - although I don't think they should feel obliged to say – because sometimes there are charities the general public wouldn't understand the value of – just curious that's all.
@Deanster101 ok sorry mate. I'm just one of those not getting the negative-bombing for this product. I think it's a step above those cheap and nasty bittboys with there cheap-arse software - and is trying to do something a bit different - and do it legally. I hope NL keeps going reporting anything interesting in the gaming world.
@Zidentia Kinda true, but interesting you say that since it's clearly echoing the Famicom and NES design themes. Maybe it could be said they were bad designs too – and I'm not sure I could argue.
@JayJ Sure I can agree with all that. And yes I can agree it can't compete with the Switch Lite for all the reasons you mention – but it was you that started mentioning price differences and the merits of one over the other.
As you say this is a niche product, a bit obscure, and wonderful because of it.
If I'm honest one possible interest for me is that this thing will probably be easily hackable, (if not quietly encouraged to do so by the manufacturers) – and if it is, and if that screen is 720p or more, and if the buttons are good, then this could make for one hell of a good retro handheld for all my roms I have a **legal copy of** (and no I'm not just saying that - I don't steal). Since this is also a **hybrid console** at a starting price of £59 (with one cart) it's kinda mind-blowing if they do it right. Even the size is nice.
But as you importantly state, the company is an unknown entity and they have plenty of ways to mess this up. We'll see.
@MagnaRoader I'm challenging JayJ's view because its challenge worthy - not because of blind nostalgia. I get the Evercade has specific appeal and is not for the masses, but it has some appeal nontheless, so what's the problem?
@JayJ I think it's $/£150 for the machine and all the games cartridges currently released. The machine is about $80 with 3 cartridges (about 50/60 retro games). I also have some concerns about it – but in general I think it's a cool idea imo.
Also the Switch Lite stupidly doesn't support HDMI out at all, which the Evercade does at a lot lower price point. I'm sure Nintendo could have included the option with a dedicated cable if they tried.
I'm sure It'll do very well, but to me it's the Switch Lite that is a bit of a fail – no TV mode! no HD rumble and still no bluetooth - but at a premium price. Omitting those first 2 in particular means I'll never buy a Switch Lite – they are too important to me – despite the fact that I would have loved a lighter Switch. So to me, and maybe others, a Switch Lite is no good – but I'm getting kinda interested in an Evercade, alongside my full fat Switch.
Like I say, Switch Lite will sell very well, but it's not without its issues, and I don't see a problem with other companies playing the market with a different approach. I hope the machine does well.
I know it's not a popular subject with everyone, but I have the best and near perfect emulation machine that I've wanted for years. It's name? ... A hacked Switch! It's my original launch week Switch. I bought another screen only new unit as my legit machine for about £140. So I share the dock and controllers. I know, I know, but I'm no pirate, and yes I only ever play through games I own physically or digitally but this thing is incredible. Let me reiterate - I never steal games - and I don't support those who do. It's cost me a lot of money to build the collection I have. But oh my giddy aunt it's incredible. I can play almost everything up to PS1 perfectly. N64 and PSP is very nearly there, and I believe Gamecube and Wii will happen within a year or so. Having a perfect portable with first-party Nintendo controls for all my retro titles that I can instantly play on the big screen is mind blowing. Hell, it's worth it for being a perfect portable SNES alone! Tell me another decent portable that can handle Super FX games perfectly? I guess that particular Switch will be banned but I'm using it completely offline, and frankly I wouldn't care. I've been wanting the perfect way to play my legitimately purchased games for some time. This will be my retro machine for years to come.
@Kirbtastic Could you tell us how you do it for each system? I always make sure I have bought a digital licence or own the physical game, and will never play through a game I don't actually own in one of those ways, but then I do use rom's from elsewhere because I can't dump. And in essence it is the same file. So each to their own but I'm not a fan of any form of stealing so this is the way I work with a broken industry, as my 'legal' way to play the game, but if I could go 'fully legit' with personal dumps I would.
No one has to steal to use a device like this. That's on them. You can just load it with games you still own a physical version of, or have bought a digital license for. That seems fair to me.
We change that's all. Anyone who say's never is not living in accordance with that. It's simply impossible to guarantee the things that are important to us now definitely will be in the future.

Re: Playdate Pre-Order Date Is Confirmed, Shipping Late This Year
@MrGawain 'So it’s a low power exclusives machine with lots of built in gimmicks?'
Well that worked out well for the DS and 3DS.
The Wii U failed for different reasons - primarily because of bad marketing - people didn't know what it was and how it related to their existing Wii.

This'll be all very cool - when it's in a handheld.

What you say!!
Re: The RK2020 Is Another Chinese Handheld Which Aims To Play Absolutely Everything
@Rhaoulos It's because it's illegal to share roms, but it's not illegal to talk about emulation options. It's not hypocritical - it's common sense.

@Deanster101 That's the second time you've made your 'sponsorship dig' on a Evercade article, and at it's even less original now.
I think it is more that NL are, ya know, curious about the product. They have always shown interest in different way's to play retro games.
