I have 7 or 8 years of import collecting under my belt. Primarily Famicom, SFC, Game Boy and Saturn.
I've acquired most of the games I'm interested in actually playing that fall within the less-than-$100 range. There are a few I broke that rule with. Crisis Force for Famicom was one of the best decisions I ever made. It's such a good game!
Things really did get stupid in 2020. Everything had an extra $20 or more tacked on for shipping that never really went away until relatively recently.
Sounds like a chicken/egg scenario: was it on Fifa because it was popular, or was it popular because it was on Fifa?
But that is coming from an American (eeewww) who was 12 in 1999 and only knew that one song from like a Mitsubishi commercial or something.
Also the Word Cup tickets thing sounds like a bit from Walk Hard: "I sang a song at a circus in New Jersey." They said, "We'll give you 5 grand." I said, "No, you won't. You'll give me that giraffe."

It's strange, the only repro carts I trust are for the Game Boy. I've heard of NES, SNES and Mega Drive repro carts all 'going bad' not long after they were manufactured. Maybe I've only just heard the horror stories.
This reminds me I have to finally get around to spending a stupid amount of money for Gunstar Heroes. I have a soft spot for handheld conversions of console titles.
The GG version seems highly unlikely to get a modern day release, unless we get a "Treasure Chest" compilation of sorts, which would be badass.
Also, special mention going out to GG Aleste 3!! I heard a rumor that it actually got pressed into a functioning Game Gear cartridge, but I have yet to see proof of its existence.
Nice! This one was at my local arcade for about three seconds and then it was gone. I must have been the only one playing it, along with Rush N Attack and D&D Shadow Over Mystara. Here today, gone tomorrow.
I'm glad I have a couple flatscreens from the golden era of HD where they still had the old video inputs. S-Video, VGA, RGB, Component and coax all day, bay-bay!!!.
And they have the digital antenna built in so I can spend my Saturday nights watching Three Stooges, Svengoolie, Black Sheep Squadron, Tour of Duty, The Rat Patrol, Land of the Giants and my favorite show of all... Combat!
Hot damn, this might be cheaper than the original hardware. I've only seen one Duo in The Wild--at ThrillHouse Games in Tulsa, OK--and it was balls expensive! It had the title Download with it which was awesome seeing in person. Try looking that one up on an internet search!
I have an almost-complete collection of the cards and stickers, and one of my babysitters growing up had the board game, but I was too young at the time to understand it.

I just need to gank an old marching band uniform from my high school and I'll be made in the shade.
Beatles, Stones, The Who, Black Sabbath, Cream, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Whitesnake, UFO, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, Motorhead..
...then whatever that music video was??
UK, what the hell happened? The synthesizer?
Edit: couple hours later
I think I figured it out. MDMA (Ecstasy) and synths hit the general population at pretty much the same time in the late 70s, when disco music was at its peak.
So it seems like all of innovation brought by the UK to the rock realm just shifted gears into electronic dance music, a notable innovation being the invention of Auto Tune.
All the badass 60s and 70s rock bands became dinosaurs virtually overnight.
That's this amateur Drugs + RockNRoll historian's take on it anyway.
And yes, most if not all of those bands used synths... eventually. Usually after threats from the record labels that funding would be withheld unless trends were followed.
You mentioned the man's name, so I'm putting this out there. Maybe five people across the entire Hookshot Media family of websites will understand this reference.
Both sold a bazillion records before being forced to credit all the artists they 'borrowed' from.
"The Human Factor" by Metal Church was sort of a protest song for early-90s hip hop exploding in popularity by sampling music without permission instead of coming up with their own rhythms and melodies.
As far as I can tell, all .pdf scans of Super Play have been scrubbed from the internet. Then again, I'm not exactly tech savvy. I managed to get maybe 20 issues deep before it got taken away. Great stuff!
The upward trajectory of "extreme-ness" from '99-'01 was something to behold. It reached a fever pitch, then 9/11 happened and changed everything. Wild times!

I'd say do this with a Sharp Twin Famicom, but then there would be one less in The Wild. I'm a preservationist at the end of the day, I guess.

There are a lot of parallels with the early, early days of film. I think that's why I'm so fascinated with retro games.

Re: Random: So, How Tall Is Metroid's Samus Aran?
Ah, yes, the "centerfold" from the Player's Guide. Classic image.
Re: Flashback: Why Acclaim Almost Killed This Arnold Schwarzenegger Video Game
It basically turned into a spiritual sequel to NES Die Hard, but it seems to have fared better than Last Action Hero.
It's too bad, because chiptune versions of Big Gun and Angry Again would have kicked ass!
Which reminds me, I listened to that soundtrack a ton when it released while watching my older brother conquer Mario 3.
