@RadioShadow thats my setup, a Wii with a hard drive and all my Wii/Gamecube games with their lovely box art waiting for me to choose which to play
I'd definitely recommend this route as for a start you have Wii games as well, plus some Wiiware exclusives and the entire setup can be had for a little over £50
@Damo I know what you mean and thats why I have 2 Saturns, it really does benefit that console though as so many of its best games are in Japanese and can now be patched. Even Symphony of the Night now has a performance patch using the 4mb ram cart so I'd highly recommend it
@Damo I've gone down this route for my Saturn and Dreamcast and wouldn't go back even though I still like having the physical discs. In reality something like this will ultimately save you a lot of money on some of the rarer games too
@roadrunner343 well it has quite a few gems that were exclusive to the console, more so in Japan which had a lot of games. Games like Radiant Silvergun which is regarded as one of the best shmups ever made, or Shining Force 3 which has 3 parts in Japan with English translations being done, then by far the best ports of Capcoms fighting games. Even a cool Resident Evil clone in Deep Fear by Sega themselves or the likes of Enemy Zero, or how about Dark Savior, an RPG that branches off into several different stories depending upon how long you take to finish the opening area.
Even just buying the likes of Deep Fear, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force 3 (English versions) and Radiant Silvergun will set you back £1000+ depending upon condition.
Overall I'd say it has the best shmup library of any console, one of the best 2D and 3D fighter libraries and whole lot of other quite unique games
@roadrunner343 its significantly cheaper than the cost of the games would be. For this reason alone it's a definite purchase from me, I'll still be increasing my collection but this will give me access to games that I otherwise wouldn't be able to afford
With some increased support and classics from the likes of Konami, Capcom and Sega to name a few then I'd definitely be on board. The biggest issue for things like this are the sheer amount of quality licenced titles from back then which simply cannot be sold again. I still much prefer physical media or at least on systems where it really counts, too many games today we're not playing the version on disc or cartridge, oh and as much as I like the Switch, I wish its cartridges were much bigger
Seriously who's going to spend so much money on that anyway? Do you want a Switch or one of the new next gen consoles? No I want a $250 console that plays some old Atari games and not even the good licensed ones either
Some are worse than others but generally speaking all consoles pre CD seem to be much more reliable overall and much easier to fix if need be. I've replaced parts in my NES which I find to be the most unreliable of those of consoles mainly due to the pin connector and lockout chip causing issues. Everything else I have seems good but I do worry about my Saturn and its unique AV port and will at some point have to replace it with something more conventional.
This is also why emulation is important and not something for Nintendo or anyone else to hide these games away never to be seen again
@Kidfunkadelic83 when you slow down that much the game forces you off the edge of the track, his jumping would have just been trying to get him moving forward again but unfortunately it doesn't work. In the challenge simply completing the course would have given him the win but he wouldn't have known how relatively simple it was so just tried to go very slowly down the middle. The console and game weren't out here back when this was filmed
@SBandy the guy literally ruined his television career because of how he reacted to being set up on a game he knew nothing about. If he was good enough and played long enough to work out the shortcut why would he not just complete the course as his opponent had already failed? Don't forget the game and the console weren't even out in the UK then so he couldn't have played it.
@SBandy he wasn't going for the shortcut and it's unlikely it was even known at the time. He was just trying to spend more time on the slope but didn't know that when you slow down that much you just fall off the side
Or I can simply download all those emulators to my PC for free.
Let's be realistic here, how many games are going to be licensed for sale on their store? Nintendo? Sony? Sega might do but most 3rd parties won't.
I either have those consoles or emulators on a much more powerful PC already so I see no need for this. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a fully licensed version of some of those consoles to be brought back but this just sounds like a very expensive way of using existing emulators.
Wonder how impressed Nintendo will be with the video showing so many downloaded Roms to advertise the sale of this thing 😉
This is so much better than Battlefront and to be fair the Death Star trench still looks amazing today. Every time I fly an X wing in Battlefront I wish I was playing this instead, with its superior controls oh and an actual game.
